FOR THOSE WHO NEED SLOW FASHION COPYWRITING – I’VE GOT IT COVERED
You’re an Eco-Conscious Fashion Entrepreneur
There are NEVER ENOUGH HOURS in a day for you to get all of your ideas down on paper.
And even if there were, that’s JUST THE BEGINNING of the process. There’s still draping, drafting, cutting, and sewing to do.
You took the plunge into commercial production and know that an ONLINE STORE is the best way to generate sales – especially if you want your creations to reach customers on the other side of the country. Or the continent. Or the WORLD!
Stellar photos of your wearable art are all that you need, right? Well…not quite. Nearly 90% of online customers say that a product DESCRIPTION can make or break their decision to buy. That means writing. A lot of writing.
And on top of that, there’s EMAIL NEWSLETTERS to get and maintain customer interest. Want a BLOG to generate more website traffic? Awesome! That’s 1,500 – 2,500 words. Per WEEK. Because just having a blog isn’t enough. The posts need to be regular and have enough words to show up in search results.
But you don’t want to have to worry about that! There’s already NEVER ENOUGH HOURS in a day.
YOUR SOLUTION?
The Floral Chainsaw.
Fashion Copywriting by The Floral Chainsaw can help with:
TIME
When you outsource your slow fashion copywriting projects to me, you know exactly WHEN I will deliver the final products to you.
Conversely, if you take it on as a side project, how long will it take you to finish? HOW MANY HOURS will you spend working on something you don’t enjoy?
It also takes you away from the WORK THAT YOU LOVE – and who is going to pick up that work while you are sidetracked by a copywriting job?
Let me take care of the writing so that you can do the work you are passionate about.
BUDGET
Before you hire me to do your eco fashion copywriting, you know exactly HOW MUCH you are paying for the work. I charge per project, not an hourly rate – whatever is on the proposal is what you see on the invoice. NO SURPRISES, NO B.S.
If you task a designer – yourself or an assistant – with copywriting when it isn’t their job, not only are you paying a full-time salary for part-time work, but the results aren’t PROFESSIONAL.
If you want good results, contract a good writer; it is cheaper, and you get a superior final product.
MORALE
As a career creative, you want to spend your working hours doing what you are good at. There are few things more disheartening than staring at work you HAVE to do, while the work you WANT to do sits off to the side.
Let ME handle the ethical fashion copywriting projects so you and your team can get on with doing the design and garment construction work that you enjoy and are good at.
Do not set yourself up for failure – or procrastination. Instead, I will set you up for success.

THE INTENT – Fashion Copywriting Explained
If you’ve ever taken an English composition class, I feel your pain. I’ve taken many English classes in my life, and despite my credentials, I did NOT enjoy most of them. However, I’ve also been an English teacher; I’ve seen not just the aspects of learning to write that are obnoxious and/or unnecessary, but also…

Explaining “Slow” Fashion – Sustainable Fashion Copywriting
Does slow fashion need explaining? While those of us in the fashion industry intimately understand the difference between “slow” and “fast” fashion because it affects the daily aspects of how we work, none of that is seen by the customer. In other words – they don’t know what they don’t know. And one of the…

Sustainable Fashion Copywriting – Bridging the Gap Between Designers and Customers
What’s the problem? One of the biggest hurdles that causes the average customer to balk when considering the shift from fast-waste fashion to slow-sustainable wardrobes is the price points. If a person is used to buying t-shirts for $5, they need several practical reasons for why they should be paying 10x as much (or more)…

My desire is to see your brand’s success in promoting fair and sustainable production in the fashion industry. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a Copywriter (or Copy Writer)?
Copywriters are the professional writers who create the text that is used to sell products or services. The no-space version of the word – copywriter – is more current/modern, although “copy writer” is still used and recognized as correct by some spell check programs.
I am a slow fashion copywriter, as I specialize in writing copy for boutiques and fashion designers who sell clothing that is both ethically produced and sustainably sourced.
What is Slow Fashion?
Also known as SUSTAINABLE fashion, ECO fashion, or ETHICAL fashion – slow fashion is the earth-friendly and worker-friendly alternative to the disposable, labor-exploitative fast fashion of the past two decades.
People who buy slow fashion are looking for clothes that are made of high-quality natural or recycled fibers, produced in small batches by regional artisans or garment workers who receive fair compensation for the work they do. Your sales copy should provide these customers with that information, so they know your brand is sustainable and ethical.
These informed customers also understand that because they are buying an ethically- and sustainably-produced garment, it is going to cost more money and, if made to order, will take longer to ship and receive. This is another area where website copy sets customer expectations and establishes trust.
What kinds of copy do you write?
BLOG POSTS are an excellent way to generate new traffic to your website, as they can be written around keywords and phrases that will be picked up by search engines and make your shop more visible in search results – a process known as Search Engine Optimization (SEO). They also offer immediate informational value to your customers in the form of style advice, garment care tips, seasonal wardrobe transition ideas, and much more.
EMAIL NEWSLETTERS keep your customers informed and engaged with your business. By putting your brand name in a potential buyer’s inbox on a regular basis, you stay relevant and are more likely to be the brand they think of when they are looking to make a fashion purchase. Emails are also the best way to notify customers of sales, new inventory, and restocks of popular items.
ITEM DESCRIPTIONS should never been overlooked! While things like blogs and newsletters bring people to your store, it’s the descriptions that actually make the sale. I have seen so many online boutiques that do not even have item descriptions – and yet 87% of customers consider this information to be extremely important when making purchasing decisions. That’s 87 out of 100 sales that you could potentially LOSE from not having solid item descriptions!
ABOUT PAGES and other general website content that only needs to be written once are a great place to employ a fashion copywriter, since it’s a one-time investment that helps to build a relationship of trust between you and your customers. People like to know who they are giving their business to, and the text on your website is your one chance to let potential buyers see who you are and what matters to you. This is particularly important for boutiques that cater to conscious consumers – they want to know what your company ethos is, where you source your materials, and what your supply chain looks like.
What’s it like to work with you?
FIRST, we have an initial consultation call (10-15 minutes), during which we discuss your brand identity and sales goals, and I give you some ideas for copy that will get you to those goals.
SECOND, I create a proposal that outlines the types of copy that your brand needs, along with completion deadlines and prices per item. You review the proposal, let me know if you have any adjustments you would like to make, and then I send you an initial invoice for the project.
THIRD, after I receive 50% of the invoice total to secure your position in my work queue, I start writing the copy. At any point during the process, you can reach out to me for a status update, suggestion, or adjustment- things change, so I’m dedicated to remaining flexible.
FOURTH, I send you the first draft by the deadline listed on the invoice. You will have one week (if you need additional time, let me know) to review them and notify me of any changes or corrections. After I receive your notification of changes, I make the adjustments to the draft.
FIFTH, you receive the final invoice for the remaining balance. Once I receive the remainder, I send you the final draft that includes any changes you requested. At that point, your project is complete, and you can look forward to increased sales and web traffic.
SIXTH, if you would like to provide me with a review or testimonial, I would love to receive your feedback! And of course, I will look forward to working with you again whenever you need more copywriting.
Do you also offer editing or proofreading services?
YES, I am always open to taking editing jobs – fashion or otherwise.
PROOFREADING is for documents that are solid on content and structure, but need a bit of help in the areas of grammar and mechanics. While there are a lot of great programs for spellcheck and catching grammar errors, they have a much higher rate of failure (and can even create new issues within the text) than a professional proofreader.
EDITING is for people who lack confidence in their writing ability, are not native English speakers/writers, or who otherwise need someone to do a significant amount of rewriting and rearranging. When I edit documents, I include comments, suggestions, and revisions that go beyond just catching errors. If you aren’t sure that your text says what you want it to say, then you need an editor.

ABOUT THE FLORAL CHAINSAW
Howdy! My name is Julia Carvel and I am a slow fashion copywriter.
As a professional, award-winning writer with a career spanning nearly three decades, I first learned about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) while writing keyword-stuffed content for a blog outsourcing company starting in 2009. They hired me under their general policy of promoting writers to full-pay status after producing two months of regular articles as a probationary, half-pay writer. I was promoted to full pay after just two weeks.
My specialization is connecting sustainable, ethical fashion companies with their ideal audience, whoever and wherever they may be. I particularly love working with designers and boutiques based outside of the USA, especially companies who are looking to bring their unique styles to English-speaking markets for the first time.
In my past lives, I have been a Navy officer and college professor, with a B.A. and M.A. in English, and a M.Ed. in TESOL.
Why “The Floral Chainsaw”? Because it’s unique, memorable, easy to spell, and is an accurate representation of my personality.
My favorite punctuation mark is the semicolon.
