My name is Julia Carvel, and I am the face behind The Floral Chainsaw.
I’ve worked as a writer, editor/proofreader, English professor, tutor, and mentor.
My history includes serving as an active duty officer in the United States Navy, a college teacher in medium and maximum security Texas prison units, and being a damn good raid healer in World of Warcraft (back in the olden days).
I have a wide variety of interests and a penchant for collecting seemingly random pieces of information. My students used to call me the “Everything Professor” because I could teach just about anything, then ultimately tie it back to English.
My favorite punctuation mark is the semicolon.
I picked the name “The Floral Chainsaw” because it perfectly represents me – I love feminine things and can be a total girly girl, but I can also fix pipes, rewire lights, and yes – even use chainsaws (in multiple sizes).
