Editing

If you’re an unconventional writer, you need an unconventional editor – and I fit that description!

I work with non-native English speakers, neurodivergents, current and prior military, and the formerly incarcerated (or any combination thereof). I’ve even worked with a few normies. 😉

Got a manuscript that needs a little (or a lot) of clean-up to get it ready to publish?
Not sure if your writing is the best it could be?
Want someone who is a certified grammar fiend and OCD superhero to check your draft for errors?

Alpha/Beta Reading

Price: 0.0025 USD per word
$1.00 USD per 400 words
(400 words is ~1 typed page)

Alpha Reading is best for those who are still working on a manuscript and want to know if it’s headed in the right direction. I read for narrative consistency (e.g., does it make sense for characters to do/say that? Are there any missing or confusing elements in the plot?)

Beta Reading is for writers who have a completed manuscript and are looking for someone to give them feedback on their text from a reader-centric perspective. We will first talk about who your ideal reader is, and then I will go over the manuscript using that information to determine if you are successfully connecting with that audience and communicating your ideas effectively.

Editing (Corrections and Notes)

Price: 0.02 USD per word
$20.00 USD per 1000 words
(1000 words is 2.5 pages in Times New Roman (12pt), single-spaced)

My version of editing is a combination of developmental, line, and copy editing. Developmental editing focuses on plot, character, setting, etc. – broad scope content issues. Line editing is for tone consistency, word choice, and sentence/paragraph balance. Copy editing is me cleaning up any significant grammatical, mechanical, and spelling errors while I’m reading for the other two. This will get a draft from “rough” to “final” status.

Proofreading (Final Corrections)

Price: 0.01 USD per word
$10.00 USD per 1000 words
(1000 words is 2.5 pages in Times New Roman (12pt), single-spaced)

Proofreading is checking for grammatical, mechanical, and spelling errors, as well as making necessary adjustments to format. This takes a draft from “final draft” to “finished manuscript” status. Yes, this is something that most word processing software and applications claim to do – however, they frequently make mistakes that can completely change the meaning of a sentence, and even introduce new errors instead of correcting existing ones.
